Okay, I realize my interests are wide and varied so for this blog we'll focus on my writing adventure. What's that? Well I'm writing a multi-culti novel with a chick lit tone.

What's a chick lit tone? To me, it's that hip, very contemporary way of speaking, like the way they do in Sex and the City where they say "modelizer" = guys who only date models; "Manhattanites" = people who live in Manhattan NY etc.

What's chick lit? It's the latest thing in publishing. It started from Fielding's Bridget Jone's Diary (single woman dealing with insecurity problems about her weight, smoking, dating toxic bachelors, etc.) and offshooted to chick lit on the edge like Desperate Housewives (a series on women's lives represented by characters like Susan, a divorcee with a teenage daughter dealing with dating woes. Now there's paranormal chick lit like Marianne Mancusi's Fashionista in King Arthur's Court and more are coming.

Jennifer Love Hewitt has this Oxygen movie this March 12 called "Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber." That's chick lit. Did you hear the trailer? ie. Looking hip, climbing the ladder of corporate success, she's in her window office complaining about a guy then says, "Why because I'm fabulous." Then she winks. Now that's so chick lit. It's a woman living her girl power. She's confident, has control over her destiny and doesn't have to act/look like she's driven by testosterone to succeed. She's all estrogen and celebrates it. That's chick lit.

Now there's also mom lit (so protagonist doesn't have to be single), hen lit (chick lit tone with protagonists on menopause), there's even lad lit (protagonist is a guy).

Anyway, chick lit's just that sassy tone. It's more conversational. Go out in the streets and you'll hear it. It's all around us. The media's finally catching on to this. I don't know if it started with the print media or TV but now it's every where.

Well maybe next time we'll talk about other chick lits on TV like The "Gastineau Girls" and "Mr. Romance," a reality series about the search for the next Harlequin romance novel cover model starring Fabio. Which leads me to say, I think this reality TV success and the success of chick lit are connected, cosmically yeah, but more's going on here. Stay tuned!

To put it all together, I'm writing chick lit. Every agent I've pitched it to (around 12) requested to see it. Now, I just need to edit and finish it :)
